Architectural Details — Interior Design Glossary
Mouldings, millwork, arches, and the small built-in moves that give a room its bones. This pillar names the architectural details that distinguish a flat shell from a considered interior.
Architectural details are what turn a builder-grade box into a room you would photograph. They are also the easiest spend to get wrong, because the names overlap and the proportions are unforgiving. This pillar covers the millwork (crown molding, wainscoting, beadboard), the wall treatments (shiplap, paneling, tongue and groove), and the ceiling details that organic modern interiors lean on heavily. Saying the right term to a contractor saves a round of revisions.
